Thuraya has launched a new, competitive ThurayaMarine service designed for a wide variety of sea-going segments. The ThurayaMarine terminal, specially built for a maritime environment, is a multi-purpose communication device, that supports voice, fax, data, GPS and GmPRS communications in the middle of the sea. With a water-resistant and omni-directional antenna, ThurayaMarine ensures that link with satellite is uninterrupted at all times, which gives a high service reliability for sailing ships and their passengers.
The product which hit the market last week will initially be distributed a group of key maritime distributors including Fort Info Technology, Xtralink, Intermatica, Satlink and IEC. Further partnerships with specialised marine telecom distributors are in the pipeline, as Thuraya expects to lure a majority of renowned maritime partners.
"Considering that the maritime segment traditionally accounts for the largest part of satellite telecom industry, we envisage that the launch of ThurayaMarine will be highly promising for us," says Yousuf Al Sayed, CEO. "The expanded coverage area that we have announced early this year towards Asia-Pacific with all the additional maritime waterways brought under our system footprint, as well as the highly affordable terminal and calling prices will make ThurayaMarine a popular gadget for the marine industry in the very near future."
Thuraya will be showcasing this new service, as well as announce the commercial launch of Thuraya-3, its newest Geo-mobile satellite in Asia Pacific, at the coming CommunicAsia 2008 to be held in Singapore on June 17 to 20.
