TeleCommunication Systems Inc. will perform live demonstration of precise location fixes over a WiMAX network using the Secure User Plane for Location (SUPL) Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) technology in the TCS Xypoint Location Platform. Believed to be the first in the industry to publicly showcase this capability, the TCS demonstration at CTIA WIRELESS 2008, April 1 to 3, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada, will run on a live, commercially-deployed WiMAX network in the Pacific Northwest.

Broadband wireless and WiMAX market research and analysis leader Maravedis Inc. forecasts that WiMAX subscribers will exceed 100 million by 2014. However, the world of WiMAX is rapidly expanding beyond mere broadband access. The TCS demonstration at CTIA will use the company's Xypoint Location Platform to affirm that precise, location-based services on WiMAX end devices are rapidly becoming a reality.

TCS' Xypoint Location Platform collects the GPS location using SUPL over the WiMAX network. A Web-based location tracking application regularly queries the Xypoint Location Platform for the laptop position and displays the resulting location on a map. While TCS is using a SUPL-enabled laptop for the CTIA exhibition, the technology is easily transferable to other wireless devices such as WiMAX-enabled personal digital assistants.
