Socket Communications Inc., dba Socket Mobile Inc., has announced that its Go Wi-Fi! P500 CompactFlash (CF) Card and P700 embedded radio module have been certified for Version 4 of Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) for Application Specific Devices. OEM handheld device manufacturers now have the ability to leverage a broad range of Cisco Wi-Fi innovations such as robust security, improved quality of service, centralized administration and enhanced voice capabilities by embedding Socket Mobile Wireless LAN (WLAN) cards and modules in their designs and using the Socket Mobile Enhanced Wi-Fi Companion Software (e-WFC).
With Cisco products in nearly two-thirds of enterprise wireless LAN, or Wi-Fi, infrastructures today, most business organizations demand that the Wi-Fi radios in their mobile devices bear the Cisco Compatible seal, which is earned through the CCX program. The CCX specification defines the set of features needed for a Wi-Fi radio or a client device that uses a Wi-Fi Radio, to be deemed "compatible" with a Cisco wireless LAN infrastructure. Although Cisco has published five versions of its CCX specifications, today a product can be certified only for the two most recent versions: Version 4 (V4) or V5. The Socket Mobile CCX V4 certification has unique advantages for OEMs that are seeking to offer state-of-the-art WLAN solutions.
