Solectek Corp., a leading manufacturer of wireless broadband equipment, announced the introduction of the SkyWay-FSO Series of products, which uses free space optics to transmit data at up to 200Mbps aggregate for point-to-point applications. The compact transceivers were designed for fast, cost effective deployment for applications such as video surveillance backhaul, LAN-to-LAN extension, emergency communications, military environments and campus settings. The first product of the series, the FSO-100E, can also handle T3/E3 TDM backhaul traffic.
"Our SkyWay-FSO Series is a second-generation optical platform that provides highly secure and affordable communications for short range applications," said Dr. Eric Lee, CEO, Solectek. "We designed the platform to be easy and fast to install. In addition, the FSO Series is highly secure, which makes it perfect for more sensitive applications where complete avoidance of radio frequency transmissions is desired, such as at airports or within a military theater. The system can also be used to connect buildings for enterprise customers, with no risk of RF eavesdropping."
Features of the FSO-100E include:
- High Throughput
- The usable payload throughput will exceed 90Mbps in each direction, giving a total aggregate throughput of over 180Mbps across the link.
- Enhanced Security and Interference Immunity
- The narrow optical beamwidth of the FSO-100E system virtually eliminates the possibility of signal intercept in the air. In contrast to using radio systems, the FSO link is also immune to interference from other transmitters in the area.
- Ease of Installation
- Unlike most other FSO systems which require complicated installation procedures, the Solectek FSO-100E can be easily installed by the end user.
- Built-in, Power-over-Ethernet (POE)
- POE greatly simplifies the cabling requirement down to a single outdoor CAT5 cable.
