XP Power has announced the SMM400 series, a family of 400W AC/DC switching power supplies that enable more power to be delivered in an 1U high enclosure. Most 1U units are limited to around 250W but this new power supply, which has power densities of up to 6.25 Watts per cubic inch, meets demand for higher power within a given space. The low profile units come in 24 standard models -19 single-output and 5 dual-output versions - and carry agency approvals for communications, IT, industrial and medical applications.



The SMM400 has a universal 90 to 264VAC input with a choice of output voltages from 3V to 48VDC. The primary output is user adjustable by ?%. It has remote sense, power-good and remote on/off functions built in, with a current share function and AC fail signal offered as options. The unit is available in either U-channel or enclosed formats, with integral cooling. Over-current, over-voltage and over-temperature protection are included. The SMM measures 9.01 x 5 x 1.6 inches with fan and cover, excluding the input screw terminal block, or only 8.0 inches long for the U-channel. It is available now and priced from $231 per unit for the single output versions, based on 1,000 pieces.
