Comba Telecom Systems has introduced the multi-carrier power amplifier (MCPA) for 3G networks. The MCPA enables the amplification and integration of multiple carrier signals into a single antenna on base stations. The impact of this is to enable efficiencies by removing the need for multiple antennas for each base station with implications on running and maintenance costs.
The MCPA has high power density of its kind -- namely, on a pound-for-pound basis, the MCPA has the highest power output, yet consumes the least power in the industry. The net effect of this is to help base station operators and manufacturers realize efficiencies in setting up and maintaining their base stations.
